Each firm's profit depends upon firms' outputs. At first, we formalize the Cournot model in MATHEMATICA language and then show the 3-dimensional profit surfaces. To emphasize the profit surface, we can show the modified profit surface in which it is zero profit if it was negative one. Next, we have Cournot's reaction function and show two firms' reaction curves, respectively. We immediately get the Cournot equilibrium at which two firms' reaction curves cross each other. We know the Cournot equilibrium is not Pareto efficient because we can see the lense-shaped area in which each firm gets larger profit than one in the Cournot equilibrium. The profit surfaces are truncated by the profit level of Cournot equilibrium. This paper is written as MATHEMATICA notebook format. You can choose any values of parameters of Cournot model and get the associated Cournot equilibrium.
